Creative drinks are launched at Sands Resorts Macao
Creative drinks are definitely an ongoing trend in the Hong Kong and Macao region. Heralded by the arrival of Bar De Luxe, the sister bar of Tokyo’s multi-awardwinning Bar High Five, on the shores of Hong Kong in 2016, the popularity of mixed drinks has reached fever pitch. Mixologists have become celebrities in their own right, and the term “seasonal drinks” is all the rage.
Matcha Soy Latte
To usher in this wave of discerning palates for creative drinks, several restaurants at Sands Resorts Macao have launched a variety of drinks with flavours from around the world. Delicious beverages include chai from the ancient civilisation of India, Japanese-inspired antioxidant-rich matcha soy lattes, refreshing detoxifying beverages from the US and Italian Negronis from the shores of the Mediterranean.
Windows in the Four Seasons Hotel Macao is focusing on the health benefits of drinks by using fresh produce – spices as well as green tea – to create refreshing drinks such as Beetroot & Cinnamon Soy Latte, Pumpkin and Turmeric Latte and Matcha Soy Latte. No matter which health and beauty philosophy you subscribe to, there is a drink here for you.

Rich in iron and antioxidants, beetroot is making the rounds as a superfood on the west coast of the US. The Beetroot & Cinnamon Soy Latte utilises natural sugar from the vegetable in the drink, avoiding processed sugars. Cinnamon is an ingredient known in Indian culture for its anti-inflammatory and cholesterol-lowering properties, among others, and when combined with beetroot results in an antioxidant-packed refreshment.
A true combination of East meets West is the Pumpkin and Turmeric Latte. Coffee is a universal stimulant used to wake the senses, and Windows mixologists have added other ingredients to make it the ultimate mood booster. Turmeric has incredible antioxidant properties and is also, according to Chinese medicine, a natural antidepressant and immune booster. In combination with turmeric imported from southern China, the drink is sweetened with pumpkin and mixed with a base of soy milk, making this a drink which basks in the glow of healthiness.
Four different flavours of Negroni for different moods
Green tea originated in China but was further refined by the Japanese to create matcha powder, which is known for its antioxidant properties. The process includes steaming, drying and then grounding it into powder, preserving amino acids such as L-theanine, and antioxidants such as catechin. In traditional Japanese culture, it was believed that the bitterness of the matcha was good for the heart, and the modern interpretation of combining this with smooth soy milk in a latte translates the elegance of this ingredient in a contemporary light.
Portofino and Chiado are also hosting a slew of exciting Negronis, the classic mixer from Italy. Using the typical ratio of 1:1:1 for gin, vermouth rosso and Campari, these Negronis are given a twist with ingredients such as olives, coffee cacao, rosehip and hibiscus. These four unique cocktails are served on the rocks, creating a refreshing thirstquencher for the summer.
Coconut Turmeric Chai Latte
All the signature restaurants at Sands Resorts Macao are also serving up a Coconut Turmeric Chai Latte. In this take on the traditional drink from India, turmeric is added to a plethora of ingredients with health benefits in chai such as fennel seeds for detox, cardamom for circulation, cholesterol-lowering pepper, cinnamon for its antioxidant properties, and ginger which helps with hypertension. Coconut milk replaces cows milk, making this an eco-friendly as well as a healthy option for those who care about themselves and the planet as well.
