2018 Sands Macao Fashion Week returns with glamorous catwalks featuring local designers
Sands Resorts Macao will again become an international hub of style when it hosts Sands Macao Fashion Week 2018, on October 18-24. Get ready for seven days of exciting and innovative fashion programmes and promotions that are expected to delight even the most discerning of fashionistas.
This magnificent week will focus on many prominent fashion brands and show the crème de la crème of luxury labels represented at Sands Resorts Macao’s magnificent retail outlets: Shoppes at Four Seasons; Shoppes at Venetian; Shoppes at Parisian and Shoppes at Cotai Central. Sands Macao Fashion Week 2018 will also host special activities for the public and several catwalk events, the highlight of which will be an exclusive, glamorous fashion show for about 220 VIP guests, media and key industry influencers.
So, expect to see a series of ready-to-wear group runway shows displaying current collections and various activations across the integrated resort. International labels are expected to be worn by statuesque models on the events’ runways.
Last year’s inaugural Sands Macao Fashion Week was a big success. It began with an absolutely fabulous gala dinner that included the global unveiling of La Perla’s Spring/Summer 2018 collection, and was attended by the sensuous brand’s creative director Julia Haart as well as A-listers and Chinese celebrity royalty Fan Bingbing and Hu Bing. This year’s gala event promises to be just as exciting with a delightfully relaxed cocktail and canapes evening which is expected to feature an opening show bigger and better than before.
Think bright lights, Champagne, and lots of mingling - all adding up to a buzzing night full of fashion and socialising.
Walk the walk
There will be runway and boutique shows all over Sands Resorts Macao’s beautiful properties. The canals of Shoppes at Venetian and The Parisian Macao’s Avenue des Champs-Élysées will be transformed into exciting catwalks. This means the traditionally classic canal of The Venetian will once again be transformed into a runway that is aptly titled “Walk on Water”. This year, look forward to ready-to-wear pieces by fashion royalty like Sonia Rykiel. A transparent runway will snake through the canal with models decked to the nines in opulent luxury that is offered throughout Sands Shoppes. Floodlights will create a transcendent contrast between the water, the flashy fashion and the audiences watching in awe. It is a sight not to be missed.
Made in Macao
Sands Macao Fashion Week 2018 also proudly presents the latest collection of talented Macao-born fashion designer Nuno Lopes. Recognised at as one of “Asia Top Young Fashion Designers” at the 2016 Fashion Asia Awards, Lopes is the first Macao fashion designer to be featured in Vogue magazine, and also the first to participate in London Fashion Week. Now Lopes’ designs are worn by socialite Paris Hilton and several prominent Asian and international artists. He talks to Sands Style on page 48.
The event will also highlight the strength and depth of the city’s fashion industry. Its closing event will be hosted by the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, which has again been invited to participate as part of Sands China’s ongoing campaign to support the city’s cultural and creative industries. So, get prepared to be wowed by Macao’s emerging fashion talent. At last year’s
event, eight local designers and their brands presented over 50 elite creations onstage, and several are expected to return for Sands Macao Fashion Week 2018. Local talents featured in 2017 included Isa Tang, chief designer and founder of Alexis Jordan; Ella Lei, of ella épeler; Jade Leong, of JADE.L; Kitty Ng, of La Mode
Désir; Ng Sao-chan, of Agência Comercial Nubiano; Isabella Choi, of NEGA C.; Leo Wong, of SOUL; and Vincent Cheang, of Worker Playground.
Packed with international labels and up-and-coming local talent, Sands Macao Fashion Week 2018 will make Macao the hub of style this October.
