Celine Dion set to perform two concerts at Cotai Arena
With a voice that redefined pop as we know it, pop legend Celine Dion is returning to Macao for two longawaited concerts on June 29 and 30.
The audience can expect soaring, note-perfect anthems delivered by one of pop’s most accomplished performers.
The dates are part of a much wider tour, as the Canadian singer embarks on a 12-city stint across the Asia-Pacific, starting in Tokyo on June 26.
Dion’s singing has made her one of the most successful performers in pop history. Over her 30-year career she has sold more than 220 million records worldwide, and has won numerous international awards in a wide range of categories. Being French-Canadian, Dion has released most of her records in French, and in 2008 was honoured as a Knight of the Legion of Honour for Merits and Contributions to France.
She is best known, however, for her involvement with movie music: two of her songs – Beauty and the Beast and My Heart Will Go On – won Academy Awards. It is the latter song, from the 1997 blockbuster Titanic, that made Dion a household name throughout the world.
In 2016, Dion was presented with Billboard Music Awards’ lifetime achievement Icon Award. She continues to break records with a Las Vegas residency that has seen her play more than 1,000 shows to at least 4 million fans.
Most recently, Dion has delighted fans worldwide by teaming up with uber-sassy antihero Deadpool, in a hilariously over-the-top music video for her song Ashes, the theme for the upcoming Marvel movie, Deadpool 2.
Talking to Sands Style earlier this year, Dion revealed that performing live remains her driving passion. “[Performing live] is what we feed our souls with,” she said. “It’s what we need … When people are singing with us, we can’t ask for more.”
Yet even after all these years, the stage can still be a scary place: “We get nervous too,” she said. “We forget words. We get sick. We have extravagant lives but we are normal people.”
Talking of her return to the touring circuit, Dion said that it was something she felt she had to do for her fans. “It’s big for us,” she said. “We are doing this tour because we care, and we want to share.”
