Sands Style launches with an SCMP celebration
Top executives from Sands China and South China Morning Post Publishers gathered at Porterhouse in Lan Kwai Fong’s California Tower on March 2 to celebrate the launch of the SCMP’s newest lifestyle publication, Sands Style.
The night kicked off in flamboyant style with a professional jive dance performance, leading into introductions for the key guests. Joining SCMP’s CEO Gary Liu and COO Elsie Cheung, representatives from Macau included Sands China’s senior vice-president of marketing Scott Messinger and vice-president of advertising and brand management DeVonne Iao.
Sands Style is a fashion-focused magazine, with the latest news and features on lifestyle trends, and with full coverage of entertainment and sporting events at Sands’ properties in Macau. For the inaugural issue, Sands Style interviewed Kris Wu Yifan – a hot celebrity in the movie and fashion scenes.
In welcoming the assembled guests, Cheung talked about the partnership between Sands China and the Post. She explained that “Sands Style is more than a publication that introduces readers to the best of Sands Resorts Macao. It is an extension to SCMP’s reach and connection with discerning readers through curated and engaging lifestyle content”. Cheung noted Macau’s “best-in-class live entertainment”, and its gastronomic, shopping and cultural attractions, and said “it is a delight to see SCMP playing an expanding role, highlighting this top-notch holiday destination that is just a ferry ride away from Hong Kong”.
Messinger described himself as an “avid fan of the South China Morning Post and the work they do”.
He added that it was “very gratifying to be able to finally work with SCMP” during the two companies’ transitions to digital content provision. He said he was looking forward to further cooperation between Sands and SCMP, and voiced his hope that Sands Style would deliver “above all, a really great read”.
Winnie Chung, editorial director of SCMP’s Specialist Publications, Advertising and Marketing Solutions, spoke of the excitement in welcoming a new title to Post’s portfolio of lifestyle titles, and that Sands Style would “bring the ultimate lifestyle guide to our readers and allow them to savour Macau through the unique prism of the Sands Resorts Macao experience and the editorial expertise of SCMP”.
Guests were invited to try their hand at custom-made “gaming tables” and slot machines designed especially for the event.
Prizes included stays at Sands’ hotels, such as The Parisian Macao, crystal souvenirs made by Swarovski, and gold-plated animals of the Chinese zodiac.
Sands Style is available at locations such as the Hong Kong to Macau Cotai Water Jet ferry service and at Sands properties in Macau.
